Odia boy Chandrakant Acharya awarded Sword of Honour at IMA

Cuttack: Bringing a laurel to the state, Cuttack boy Chandrakant Acharya won the Sword of Honour for for the best performing cadet for the Autumn Term this year at the Indian Military Academy (IMA) on Saturday.

Acharya who had joined Rashtriya Indian Military College (RIMC) located at Dehradun received the award from Bangladesh Army Chief General Abu Belal Muhammad Shafiul Huq along with a gold medal for being the best cadet of the year.

Acharya’s father Ajay Kumar is a professor of Botany by profession and his brother Suryakant works as a chemical engineer in Karnataka.

With Acharya’s winning the honour, Odisha has won the Sword of Honor at IMA, Dehradun for the second consecutive year. Last year the title went to Pratyush Mohanty of the state.

CM Naveen Patnaik took to twitter and congratulated Acharya for his great achievement.

He wrote, “Congratulations to Chandrakant Acharya of Cuttack on being conferred the prestigious Sword Of Honour as the best performing cadet at Indian Military Academy passing out parade. #Odisha is proud of his accomplishment. Wish him all success in his career.”
