Minor boy killed in wild jumbo attack, sister critical

Sundergarh: In yet another incident of man-animal conflict in the state, a minor boy was killed and his sister sustained critical injury in jumbo herd attack in Amarudhi village under Banki Forest Range in the district last night.

The deceased has been identified as Biswanath Munda (17). The injured is Sunani Munda (7) of the same village.

As per the report, a herd of at least seven wild elephants comprising of both adults and calves strayed into the house late in the night and wreaked havoc. Later the herd attacked the house where the Biswantath was sleeping with his family.

One of the jumbos lifted the victim with its trunk and threw to a distance due to which he died on the spot. Deceased’s sister sustained grievous injury as a wall caved in and fell on her during the pachyderm attack.

The injured was later shifted to a nearby hospital where her condition is stated to be critical.

Forest officials have reached the spot and taken stock of the situation.

The family of the deceased would get compensation under existing government provision and all medical expenses of the injured would be borne by the administration said forest sources.
