Matric student ends life over poor marks, second incident in Odisha

Berhampur: The death toll due to poor performance in the Matric exams, results of which were declared yesterday by the Board of Secondary Education (BSE), climbed to two with a fresh report from Ganjam district.

According to reports, a 14-yr-old girl student from Narendrapur village under Seragada block of the district ended her life yesterday after she scored less marks than her expectation.

The girl, who reportedly got 141 marks out of 600, committed suicide by consuming poison. She is survived by her mother and two brothers.

Local police seized her body and sent it for postmortem.

Earlier yesterday, a student identified as Padmalochan Mallik of Ratalanga village, who was studying in Ratneswara Bidyapitha in Jajpur district, ended his life taking poison after poor performance in the annual Matric exams. He had secured 263 marks in the exam.
