Maoist Attack: 9 CRPF personnel killed in Chhattisgarh

Raipur: At least nine CRPF personnel were killed and several others injured in a Maoist attack in Sukma district of Chhattisgarh on Tuesday.

The martyrs have been identified as Ajay Kumar Yadav, Jitendra Singh, Shabit Ku Sharma, Manoj Singh, RKS Tomar, Manoranjan Lenka, Dharmendra Singh, Chandra H.S. and Laxman.

The injured personnel were being rescued from the spot and airlifted to the State capital.

According to a CRPF official, Maoists targeted a team of 212 battalion CRPF personnel between Kistaram and Palodi in the district at 12.30 PM and blew up a mine protected vehicle by triggering an improvised explosive device (IED).

The red rebels used a lot of explosives to blow up the vehicle, the official said.

Soon after the incident, reinforcement was rushed to the spot, he added saying that further details were awaited.

Earlier on the day, Maoists had staged a similar attack but they fled after the CRPF personnel retaliated the fire.

Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh tweeted condolences to the families of the deceased in the attack and wished for speedy recovery of the injured jawans.
