Baripada: A middle-aged woman was brutally beaten to death by his husband under mysterious circumstances in Mahuldiha village under Kaptipada police limits in Mayurbhanj district last night.
The deceased has been identified as Subhadra Mukherjee.
Subhadra was asleep in her house late in the night when the attack took place. The accused identified as Biswajeet Mukheerjee, who happens to be her husband, took out an iron rod kept at home and started thrashing her brutally. The victim sustained grievous head injury in the attack and bled profusely.
Family members of the couple woke up after hearing the screams of Subhadra and rescued her from the clutches of her husband.
She was later rushed to Kaptipada Community Health Centre (CHC) in critical condition and died under treatment.
While the slain woman’s family members have brought dowry allegations against her in-laws and claimed she has been murdered, her in-laws have refuted it. They said the accused was suffering from a mental sickness for last few days and possibly carried out the killing due to that.
Police have arrested the accused and started investigation into the incident.
