Bhubaneswar: In a major setback for the Odisha government, the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) has pulled out of ‘Make in Odisha Conclave 2018’ as an industry partner.

In a statement, Industries Secretary Sanjeev Chopra confirmed the decision of CII in this regard. The industry lobby group, in a letter to the State government, cited prior engagements during the proposed dates of the conclave for its inability to partner the conclave scheduled to be held on November 11-15, he said.

In a related development, CII’s State Council Chairman Arun Misra, managing director of Tata Steel SEZ Ltd and vice chairman Subrat Tripathy, also the chief executive officer of Dhamra Port Company Ltd (DPCL) tendered their resignations.

Meanwhile, the ruling BJD slammed Jagi Mangat Panda, Chairperson of CII, Eastern Region, also the Managing Director of Ortel Communications Ltd for such decision of CII.

Addressing a press meet today, BJD MP Pratap Deb said, “Jagi Mangat Panda, wife of Kendrapara MP Baijayant Panda, who was recently suspended from BJD, made the decision of pulling out of CII from the Make in Odisha conclave as she didn’t want the industrial growth of our state.”

“CII had been working with the State government for the Make in Odisha conclave until Jagi Mangat Panda becomes Chairperson of CII, Eastern Region,” he alleged saying she took the decision under the pressure of some vested interests.
