Daringbadi: Humanity stands above all profession- this was proved by the exemplary action of a reporter from Kalinga TV, who carried a three-year-old tribal boy suffering with burn injuries to hospital on Saturday after the ambulance failed to reach Kadabali village in Daringbadi area of Kandhmal district.

Kalinga TV’s reporter Susanta Sahoo admitted the boy to Budaguda Primary Health Centre this morning. A pharmacist conducted primary treatment of the boy in the absence of the regular doctor in the hospital. However, the child needs to be shifted to other hospital as he has sustained around 70 percent burn injuries.

According to reports, the three-year-old boy, who has been identified as Rasikanta Pradhan- son of Kishore Pradhan of Kadabali village, came in contact with fire while sitting around a bonfire along with his family members to cope up with the chill winter on December 4. Though he sustained severe burn injuries throughout his body, the minor boy was kept at home as his family members could not afford for his treatment.

After getting information about the boy who was on the bed for the last three days, Susanta Sahoo called the ambulance to take the boy to the hospital. However, the staff of the emergency services denied to attend the boy as there was no diesel in the vehicle for last two weeks. Later, the Kalinga TV reporter carried the boy to the Budaguda hospital on his two wheeler with much difficulty.

When contacted the local administration, they claimed that they were unaware of the incident. Later, though local MLA Jacob Pradhan and Baliguda CDMO assured to provide health care to the boy, neither any official nor any vehicle had arrived at the village till the filing of the story.
