Bhubaneswar: After giving two back to back meaningful movies like ‘Kathantara’ and ‘Krantidhara’ which won accolades worldwide by giving the Odia flavour to the audience and carving out a place for offbeat movies in Ollywood, the Kadambini Media Pvt. Ltd. is all set for its first commercial project ‘Sefali’.
Announcing the title of the movie at a city hotel on Sunday, head of the production house and Editor of ‘Kadambini’ Odia magazine Dr Iti Samanta said despite being a commercial one ‘Sefali’ would bear the imprint of its Odia root like the previous two projects. She hoped that the new movie would also touch the Odia audiences who love movies with purebred Odia stories.
While the production house is yet to decide the starcast of ‘Sefali’, Dr Iti Samanta has herself penned the story of the movie.
“It’s high time for the Odia movie industry that somebody comes forward and takes initiative to make movies with basic Odia plot and the Kadambini Media has done the job,” said veteran actor Bijay Mohanty who attended the event. “We could not afford to keep Odias away from Odia movies for long,” he added.
Dr Iti Samanta bagged the Best Story Award for ‘Krantidhara’ at the seventh Odia Film Fair Award last year. The movie was also nominated to the Seventh Edition of the Bengaluru International Film Festival (BIFFES). Similarly, the first movie of the Kadambini Media ‘Kathantara’ went on to win several awards at the 2006 Orissa State Film Awards, including the Best feature film of the year prize, and at the National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Oriya.
Among others KIIT and KISS founder Dr Achyuta Samanta, Managing Director of Kalinga TV Himanshu Sekhar Khatua along with a number of noted litterateurs, film personalities and dignitaries of the state were present on the occasion.
