Jayanarayan Mishra arrested in connection with Banabira firing

Sambalpur: Initiating action in the Banabira firing case, which occurred ahead of Bijepur by-poll and left one dead, Sohela Police arrested senior BJP leader Jaynarayan Mishra on Thursday.

A police team led by Padampur SDPO Laxminarayan Panda arrested Mishra from his residence after a raid in the morning over his alleged link with the perpetrators of the violence.

The attack took place at around 1 AM on February 22 while the minister Sushant Singh’s brother Subrat was returning from Bijepur by-poll campaign on its final day. A group of armed men intercepted their Maruti Suzuki Vitara Breeza (Registration No. OD 17 L 9590) vehicle near Banabira and hurled stones at it. After Subrat and three others, including the driver, tried to escape from the spot the attackers thrashed them brutally with sticks and then fired several rounds of bullet targeting the vehicle. The miscreants fled from the spot after the attack.

Subrat’s driver Dileswar Sahu who sustained critical head injury in the attack, died under treatment at SCB Hospital in Cuttack on February 23.
