ITF Men’s Futures Tennis Tournament begins in Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar:  The capital city of Odisha added another feather in its cap by organising international tennis tournament at the Kalinga Stadium staring from today.

Odisha Chief Secretary Aditya Prasad Padhi on Monday inaugurated the ITF Men’s Futures tennis tournament here. The tournament will continue till March 3.

Players from 11 countries including Germany, Argentina, Italy, Czech Republic, Russia, Chinese Taipei, Serbia, USA, France, and host India have been participating in the championship.

In the main draw there were 20 direct entries, four wild cards and eight qualifiers. There will be 26 direct entries and six wild cards in the qualifying draw.

Chinmay Pradhan and Anshu Kumar Bhuyan of the state have been allotted a wild card entry into the tournament by the All India Tennis Association (AITA).

The tournament, which has a total prize of 9.75 lakh rupees, is being conducted by the Odisha Tennis Association (OTA) and the state sports and youth affairs department under the auspices of AITA.

AITA Secretary General Hiranmoy Chatterjee, OTA President Asit Tripathy and other dignitaries were present on the occasion.
