IMD issues heavy rain, thunderstorm alert for 12 places in Odisha

Bhubaneswar: The IMD Regional Centre here has issued thunderstorm and heavy rainfall warning for at least 12 places in the state for today.

As per the latest Nowcast released by the centre, places like Puri, Khurda, Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, Kendrapara, Dhenkanal, Balasore, Bhadrak, Mayurbhanj, Jagatsinghpur, Nayagarh and Ganjam are likely to witness thunderstorm and heavy rainfall till 12.30 PM.

People have been told not to venture out of their homes during the alerted period and have been alerted to move to safe places to avoid any eventuality.

Earlier in the morning, the Weatherman had issued thunderstorm and lightning alert for at least 19 places including Puri, Bolangir, Nuapada, Angul, Khurda, Cuttack, Boudh, Sonepur, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Keonjhar, Koraput, Kendrapara, Dhenkanal, Balasore, Bhadrak, Mayurbhanj, Deogarh and Malkangiri. It remained in effect till 10.30 AM.

Similarly, the life has been thrown out of gear in southern and western districts of Odisha since last Sunday due to heavy rain triggered by a low-pressure over the northwest Bay of Bengal. The rain is expected to continue till tomorrow.
