Heavy rains lash several parts of Odisha

Bhubaneswar: Normal life was thrown out of gear in many parts of Odisha on Tuesday following incessant rain due to a cyclonic circulation over Northwest Bay of Bengal off Gangetic West Bengal and North Odisha Coast.

Most part of northern and coastal Odisha including the State capital Bhubaneswar and Cuttack are reeling under water-logging which has disrupted vehicular movement.

Water level was also rising in major rivers, officials said.

Bhubaneswar Met office in a release said heavy to very heavy rain and thundershowers will continue to occur at as many as 11 districts in southern, western, coastal and heavy rainfall at interior districts of the State during next 24 hours.

Sea condition is likely to be rough to very rough and fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea, the Met office in a release said.

Meanwhile, Cuttack District administration has declared closure of all schools and colleges both government and private in the millennium city in view of heavy rain today.
