Heavy rain likely in Odisha; Govt alerts collectors

Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Tuesday chaired a high level meeting at the State Secretariat here amid a forecast of heavy rainfall across Odisha in the next 48 hours.

The Chief Minister has asked all district collectors to remain alert and keep the administrative machinery prepared to face any eventuality, said Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) Bishnupada Sethi after the meeting.

The Chief Minister also asked the Collectors to take necessary steps for smooth conduct of Independence Day celebrations on August 15 in their respective districts, added Sethi saying Collectors are also asked to make special arrangements in order to avoid any untoward situations for participating students during the parade.

The Met Department has predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall in the southern and coastal districts of Odisha today and western areas on August 15.

Among others, Chief Secretary Aditya Prasad Padhi, DGP Rajendra Prasad Sharma, BMC Commissioner Krishan Kumar were also present in the meeting.
