Bhubaneswar: In a bid to create global standard players in badminton from the state, the Government of Odisha on Friday signed an MoU with Hyderabad based Pullela Gopichand Badminton Foundation for the establishment of P Gopichand Badminton Academy here in Odisha.
The MoU was signed between the Sports and Youth Services Department, Government of Odisha and Pullela Gopichand Badminton Foundation here at the Secretariat in the presence of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, Sports Minister Chandra Sarathi Behera and P Gopichand.
As per the MoU, the academy will provide technical support, including coaching and physiotherapy services for the players, while the government will bear their accommodation, transportation and other expenses.
Former All England Open Badminton Championships winner and the current coach of the Indian national Badminton team, P Gopichand, also inaugurated a coffee table book on Asian Athletics Championships, which was held in Bhubaneswar last year, on this occasion.
SAI officials, senior bureaucrats of the State government were present on the occasion.
