Google can never replace ‘Guru’: Vice Prez Bhubaneswar: “Google can never replace Guru,” said Vice-President M Venkaiah Naidu while addressing KIIT University’s 13th Annual Convocation ceremony here on Saturday.

Naidu said teachers do play a key role in transforming the society which can never be replaced by anything including Google. There is no doubt that Google is very useful. However, Guru is always inspirational, he added.

The country will grow when the higher education sector develops. Education helps to get a range of employment opportunities.

“We are in the age of LPG – Liberalization, Privatization and Globalization. Life has become very competitive today. Therefore, students should prepare themselves for learning new skills and acquiring new knowledge in the contemporary world,” suggested the Vice President.

Significantly, Naidu began his speech greeting everyone in Odia. “Samastnku mora namaskar. Odisha mote bhalalage karana eha Prabhu Jagannath nka bhumi (My greetings to everyone. I love Odisha because it is the land of Lord Jagannath),” he said. He also humbled in asking pardon for not speaking Oida fluently.

The Vice President appreciated Dr. Achyuta Samanta, founder of KIIT & KISS, for his marvelous and selfless efforts for founding the institutions. “I had earlier addressed the 25,000 tribal students of KISS, which had given me much pleasure,” he added.

Speaking about KIIT University, the Vice President said, “I feel very happy today, because KIIT is a Grade A University which has been nurturing talents for the last 12 years. In such short period, in a backward and Eastern region of the country, the institution has become one of the most famous institutions.”

Naidu also laid emphasis on never forgetting mother, mother tongue and motherland, saying there is nothing wrong in learning English or any other language. But, at the same time one must be proficient and efficient in his own mother tongue which comes from the heart and helps one to express his feeling better.Google can never replace ‘Guru’: Vice Prez

As many as 4,820 students received degrees during the annual convocation of which 3678 students receive the Bachelors degree, 837 students Masters, 240 students Dual Degree while 62 students received their PhD Degree. Gold and Silver Medals also were awarded to the meritorious students in different fields.

Chairman Emeritus, Simplex Infrastructures Ltd Dr. Bithal Das Mundhra, Bhartia Charitable Trust Chairman Kishanlal Agarwal and ‎ eminent sculptor and Padma Vibhushan awardee Guru Dr. Raghunath Mohapatra were honoured with the D.Litt. Honoris Causa degrees.

Odisha Governor Dr. SC Jamir along with other dignitaries and staff of the University attended the convocation ceremony. Dr. Samanta and President of KIIT & KISS Saswati Bal felicitated the Vice President and Odisha Governor on the occasion.

Every year, KIIT University confers Pradyumna Bal Memorial Gold Medal, PPL Gold Medal, Nanibala Memorial Gold Medal, Founder’s Gold Medals, Chancellor’s Gold Medals and VC Silver Medals on its most meritorious students at the convocation ceremony.
