Nayagarh: In a crackdown on illegal drug trade in the district, Excise sleuths arrested at least two peddlers and seized around 40 kg of ganja from their possession by conducting a raid in Ragadimada village under Odagoan police limits here on Friday.

While the identification of the held peddlers could not have been made so far they are suspected to be residents of the same district.

A team of Nayagarh Excise unit conducted the raid this morning after getting a tip-off on a house in the village where a drug deal was taking place. After raiding the house and conducting a search of it the officials came across 75 sacks of ganja which had been stored in an underground room and seized those. Two persons engaged in loading the sacks to a pick-up van on the spot were taken into custody by the officials.

The seized ganja would worth around Rs 1 Cr, said Excise sources.

Interrogation of the held peddler duo is underway to verify their link to any drug racket.

Yesterday, the Quick Action Team (QAT) of the Twin City Commissionerate Police had seized at least 20 gm of brown sugar after conducting a raid in the Infocity area in the state capital Bhubaneswar and arrested at least three peddlers.
