Bhubaneswar: Busting a gang of looters, the Commissionerate Police arrested five youths and seized a cache of loot items from their possession in the city on Monday.
The arrested members of the gang are Tiki Pradhan, Babu Pradhan, Kalu Behera, Biswanath Senapati and a minor whose identity has not been disclosed by the police.
Informing on the arrests Bhubaneswar DCP Anup Sahoo said, the accused were involved in the Highway loot incident which took place near Baramunda bus stand in the city last year, in which at least three bike-borne miscreants had snatched away the vanity bag of a couple. Acting upon a complaint filed in the case at the Khandagiri Police Station, cops nabbed the accused trio from Tamando area. Later, two others to whom the looters were selling the loot items were also caught, he added.
The arrested persons have also been involved in at least five snatching cases pending against them at the Khandagiri Police Station, informed the DCP.
Police have seized a Bajaj Pulsar bike bearing Registration No. OD 02 AN 4284, four gold necklaces, two diamond earrings, 10 costly mobile phones and a laptop from the possession of the gang and they have been forwarded to court.
