Gajapati Accident: Odisha CM Announces Ex-Gratia

Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik condoled the death of nine persons who were killed in a road accident in Gajapati district earlier today and announced an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh each for their kin.

Expressing grave concerns for the injured persons in the fatal road accident, Patnaik also directed for free medical treatment of the injured persons and wished their speedy recovery.

As per a press note released by the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO), all the medical expenses will be borne by the state government.

Notably, nine labourers were killed and over eight others were injured when a bricks-laden dumper carrying them skidded-off Luhajhar Ghati road under Kashinagar block in Gajapati district.

While five labourers died on the spot, others succumbed to their injuries at the District Headquarters Hospital in Parlakhemundi and MKCG Medical in Berhampur.

Police have started an investigation into the incident. It has detained the driver of the vehicle for interrogation.

The vehicle was on its way to Paralakhemundi from Gumma block.
