Berhampur: In yet another crackdown on racketeers, Ganjam police busted a unit which found being used for adulterating and duplicating fuels including kerosene, petrol and diesel in Bhaliajhola village under Patapur police limits in the district last night and seized a huge cache of spurious oils.

As per a source in the Ganjam district administration, the unauthorised unit had been put under police’s watch for last couple of days following a tip-off on its involvement in the illegal practise.

A group of officials led by Berhampur Sub Collector Siddharth Shankar Swain raided the unit in the evening and examined the fuels kept there. While the owner as well as the entire staffs who were working in the unit succeeded to give the team a slip, it managed to seize spurious diesel weighing around 2,500 litres from the spot during the raid which continued till 9 PM.

Police said the racketeers were preparing duplicate diesel and petrol by mixing up different chemicals in kerosene. They were also mixing kerosene in diesel and petrol before sending them to market.

A massive man hunt has been launched in the district to nab the absconding accused.
