New Delhi: Kandhamal’s formerly conjoined twins Jaga and Balia came together on Sunday for the first time after their successful separation surgery at AIIMS, New Delhi.

In the photographs released by the hospital authorities, the twins are seen spending quality time with each other in the presence of their parents Pushpanjali Kanhara and Bhuiya Kanhara.

They were glad to see one another as Jaga touched Balia’s face and smiled when they were made to sit next to each other today. The kids were also seen eating Kurkure and playing with their parents.

The hospital authorities informed that there has been considerable improvement in the health condition of the separated conjoined twins. However, both of them will have to undergo reconstructive and plastic surgery of the skull in a phased manner.

Kalinga TV had highlighted their suffering in November 2016 and then on June 7, 2017 on Kalinga Bandhu programme. Later, other media houses took up the case.

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik had sanctioned Rs 1 Crore from the CM’s Relief Fund for the surgery of the conjoined twins. The first operation was conducted on August 28 and the second phase separation surgery was conducted on October 25.
