Elderly man dies of snakebite in Dhenkanal village

Dhenkanal: In yet another case of snakebite in the state, an elderly man was killed after being bitten by a venomous snake in Baunshapala village under Kamakhyanagar police limits in the district last night.

The deceased has been identified as Ramesh Parida (78) of the same village.

Ramesh, who went to bed after dinner last night, was bitten by the reptile late in the night. Family members swung into action after hearing his screaming and rushed him to Kamakhyanagar Sub-Divisional Hospital. He died under treatment.

Police have seized the body for autopsy and registered a case of unnatural death in the incident.

Notably, cases of snake bites have registered a sharp rise in the state with the onset of the monsoon.

In similar cases, a four-year-old girl was killed after being bitten by a venomous snake in Manata village under Ghatagaon Police Station area in Keonjhar district on July 22. Earlier on July 11, a six-year-old girl had also been killed due to snake bite in Hatichua village under Sadar Police Station area in the same district.
