Nabarangpur: In yet another case of faith-healing in Nabarangpur district of Odisha, a six-month-old baby boy of Khutiguda village under Papadahandi block was branded with hot iron to cure his stomach ailments on Sunday.
The victim is identified as the son of Nakula Bhatra who himself had branded hot iron on the infant’s stomach and hands, few days back. The matter came to the fore after the family of the child admitted the baby to the district headquarters hospital.
Doctors at the paediatric ward of the hospital said that pneumonia has been suspected and the baby is kept under observation. He added that though his health condition is not critical, it cannot be said that he is out of danger.
The practice of branding children with hot iron to cure ailments is widespread in remote areas of Nabarangpur district. Earlier, disaris (faith healers) have been arrested but the branding of children still continues in Nabarangpur.
