Cuttack: After Odisha Fire Service exposed 8 Bhubaneswar malls for flouting fire safety norms, now 12 public places in Cuttack are under the radar for serious lapses including the lack of fire safety license.

These places include seven malls and five hotels of the Silver City. During the inspection today, several shortcomings were figured following which they will be issued notices within four days.

As many as 12 teams of Odisha Fire Service conducted inspection at the malls and hotels to check if the buildings have enough exit routes, exit signages, alternate evacuation plans and fire safety equipment.

The inspection was conducted today as the footfall is high in these places on weekend.

DGP (Fire Service) BK Sharma said, “They will be given two months’ time to comply with all the fire safety measures and action will be taken if found not complying with the guidelines.”

The inspection raises question if the crowded locations in the cities are made fire ready and can carry evacuation in case of an untoward situation.
