Berhampur: Unidentified miscreants gunned down a Contractor in Gothagaon village under Sheragada police limits in Ganjam district last night.
The deceased has been identified as Jogi Swain.
As per the eyewitnesses, at least three bike-borne miscreants reached near Swain’s house late last night and opened indiscriminate fire at him in which he sustained critical bullet injuries and fell unconscious. The assailants then escaped from the spot.
The victim was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital and later shifted to MKCG Medical in deteriorating condition. He died while being shifted in an ambulance to a Vishakhapatnam hospital in neighbouring Andhra Pradesh in the wee hours of night.
While Sheragada Police has lodged a case in the incident and started investigation, it has suspected the role of past enmity behind the murder.
Locals have also claimed a former village Sarpanch’s hand in the killing.
