Cuttack: The Commissionerate police nabbed a hard-core criminal after an encounter near Madhupatna area in the city on late last night.
The accused criminal has been identified as Anil Behera alias Chiku.
Based on the intelligence feedback about Chiku’s presence near Madhupatna area, a team of the special squad of Commissionerate Police raided the place. When they tried to apprehend him, Chiku opened fire at them in a bid to escape from the spot.
In retaliation, the police team fired on Chiku, in which the later sustained bullet injury on his leg.
The criminal was rushed to SCB Medical College and Hospital for treatment.
Chiku is involved in a number of criminal cases including a recent dacoity incident where he looted Rs 7.50 lakh from a businessman at gunpoint, informed Cuttack DCP, Akhileswar Singh.
