Cash looted from Astasambhu temple ‘hundi’ in Udala

Udala: A group of unidentified miscreants burgled cash worth lakhs of rupees from the ‘hundi’ (donation box) of the Astasambhu temple located in Ward No. 8 under Udala police limits in Mayurbhanj district last night.

The loot came to light after a priest reached the temple to perform puja this morning and found the lock of its main gate broken. After entering into the temple premise he found the ‘hundi’ ransacked also with donation money missing.

Police along with temple committee members reached the spot and took stock of the situation after getting intimated later in the day.

While the committee has failed to assess the exact amount of donation money looted, they informed that the box had not been opened for last two and a half years and hence could have containing cash worth lakhs.

Notably, at least two temple loot incidents have been reported from Udala in last 20 days leaving locals in a state of panic. They have demanded immediate action on the part of the police to ensure safety of the religious places.
