BJP women wing launches ‘Mahila Suraksha Yatra’ in Odisha

Bhubaneswar: The state unit of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Mahila Morcha launched its state-wide Mahila Suraksha Yatra on Thursday to sensitise women against the spurt in gender-based violence in Odisha as well as to pressurise the ruling government to act tough on wrongdoers.

The Yatra which started from seven prominent temples in the state was led by party women leaders Pravati Parida, Lekhashree Samantsinghar, Sukeshi Oram, MLA Radharani Panda, former MPs Sangita Singh Deo and, Kumudini Patnaik and former Minister Surama Padhi.

Marking the launch of the campaign Mahila Suraksha Raths were flagged off from Sikharchandi temple in Bhubaneswar, Bhadrakali Temple in Bhadrak, Chandi Mandir in Cuttack, Maa Mangala peetha in Kakatpur, Patneswari in Patnagarh, Kandhuni in Sorada, and Samaleswari in Sambalpur.

The 11-day march which has been scheduled to cover all 30 districts by passing through seven fixed routes would witness 450 meetings on its way. During these meetings the participants would sensitise the women mass about their rights and safety. They would also make the women aware of the failures of the Naveen Patnaik-led State Government to deal with the crime against women in the recent times.
