Berhampur: Berhampur Mayor K Madhavi lost post after Ganjam District and Sessions Court on Tuesday declared her election void on grounds of submitting false affidavit. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 2000 on her.
The court’s judgment came following a case filed by former Berhampur Mayor Siba Sankar Das against Madhavi.
Das had filled the case regarding her marital status. He had alleged that Madhavi married for the second time without obtaining divorce from her first husband.
Das had also moved the Orissa High Court seeking early disposal of the case following which the HC had directed the lower court to pronounce the judgment within 45 days.
Notably, Madhavi was the first woman mayor of the 40-member civic body. She was elected as the Corporator from Ward No 16 and was in the office since June 2016.
