Bee attack on Odisha Secretariat premises leaves over 50 injured

Bhubaneswar: More than 50 persons including children were injured in honey bees attack on the premises of State Secretariat here on Thursday. They have been admitted to the Capital Hospital and are said to be out of danger.

According to reports, a swarm of honey bees reigned terror after a honeycomb in the verandah of the State Secretariat was disturbed following which the bees went berserk in the afternoon today.

A majority of the affected persons were tribals, women and children who have come to participate in a state-level programme tomorrow. Tribals belonging to 62 indeginous tribes from nine districts of the state are scheduled to participate in the programme tomorrow at Utkal Mandap.

However, they were at the State Secretariat as Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik was slated to shoot a promotional video with them today.

Several government officials, security personnel and media persons were also attacked by the bees.

Most of them ran inside the Secretariat building while others ran all over the lawns, a few lied down on the ground to escape from being stung by the violent honey bees.
