Jeypore: While it is already 36 hours since two JCB operators got trapped under chunks of boulders at a stone quarry near Telengir Irrigation Project at Bariput in Koraput district on Thursday, the rescue team is still empty handed, chances are now slim that the duo could be found alive.

A joint team of ODRAF and fire officials which had been engaged at the quarry operated by one DD Construction Limited are finding it difficult to remove the heap of earth and boulders in absence of proper machinery, claimed locals.

However, the district administration has decided to rush a crane to the spot of late today and is still hopeful for the survival of the duo.

A team of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has also reached the spot for assistance.

The trapped JCB labourer duo identified as Ghanshyam Guru and Sanjay Dash of Deogarh district were busy in excavating boulders by JCBs at around 7 PM on Thursday when the quarry caved in. The rescue operation of the victims was delayed for hours due to absence of proper machinery at the quarry.

Meanwhile, the family members of the deceased duo have reached the spot and demanded immediate cancellation of the license of the construction company involved in the case.
