Atal Bihari Vajpayee admitted to AIIMS

New Delhi: Former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee was admitted to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) here this morning for a routine check-up.

In a statement, the BJP said Vajpayee was admitted as per advice of doctors and would be under the supervision of Dr Randeep Guleria, Director, AIIMS.

The 93-year-old saffron leader has been away from public life since 2009.

Vajpayee became the Prime Minister of the country for 13 days in 1996, 13 months in 1998 and for almost six years from 1999. He has been regarded as one of the tallest leaders of his party.

On December 25, the BJP-led government celebrates Good Governance Day to mark his birthday.
