Alert pilot averts major train mishap in Odisha  

Cuttack: Cuttack: A major accident was averted due to the presence of mind of a loco pilot as he halted a Mainline Electric Multiple Unit (MEMU) train near Baliguda station here after noticing a bend in the railway tracks.

According to sources, driver of the Cuttack-Brahmapur MEMU train immediately stopped the train after he spotted a bend in the tracks at around 6.20 PM.

While no damage to life or property was reported, the MEMU train was allowed to pass the site at slow speed after about 40 minutes.

Meanwhile, the East Coast Railways (ECoR) has ordered an inquiry into the incident.

“Divisional Railway Manger (DRM), Khurda Road, Brajmohan Agarwal has constituted a 4-member enquiry committee of officers and has directed to submit a detailed report in 48 hours,” said a railway spokesperson.
