Cape Town: In a surprising move, AB de Villiers on Wednesday announced his retirement from all forms of international cricket with immediate effect.

The 34-year-old South African all-rounder said that ‘the time is right’ for him to hang up his boots, bringing a close to a sterling 14-year career.

“I have decided to retire from all international cricket with immediate effect,” he said. “After 114 Test matches, 228 ODI’s and 78 T20 Internationals, it is time for others to take over. I have had my turn, and to be honest, I am tired.”

The legendry South African holds the record for the fastest half century in ODIs in just 16 balls. He has also scored the fastest century of just 31 balls.

AB de Villiers, popularly known as Mr 360*, scored 162 runs off 66 balls in a match against the West Indies in 2015 Cricket World Cup.
