7th World Junior Wushu Championships: Odisha boy Babulu Munda wins Silver

Brasilia: Babulu Munda of Odisha pocketed silver medal in the 42 kg sub-junior category of Sanshou discipline at the 7th World Junior Wushu Championship yesterday. The Championship was held from 10th July to 16th July in Brasilia, Brazil.

Babulu, a native of Sialijoda village under Deojhar panchayat in Keonjhar district, entered the final by defeating his counterparts from Peru and Iran in the quarterfinal and semifinal, respectively. However, he lost to his Egyptian contender.

Currently, Babulu is studying in Class VIII at the Government Nodal UP School in Barbil. The parentless tribal boy is being supported by the Wushu Association of Orissa (WAO), Keonjhar district administration, Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan and JSPL Foundation.

He has been undergoing training since 2011 under Asian Indoor Games Kickboxing Medalist Pankaj Kumar Mahanta.

He had won his first medal (Silver) in the very first attempt at 16th All Odisha Kickboxing Championship held at Bhubaneswar on December 18, 2011.
