Jharsuguda: Alertness of passengers and timely step by railway police averted a major mishap at Jharsuguda Railway Station this morning after a huge cache of explosives were recovered from the Dhanbad-Alappuzha Express.

Some passengers allotted their seats in the S3 3-tier AC compartment of the express spotted smoke under the seat number 71, few minutes after its arrival at the station at around 3.45 AM. They also witnessed a suspicious packet near it and informed GRP personnel.

GRP Havildar Firoz Khan rushed to the spot and recovered at least seven bombs from the compartment. The bombs were immediately taken out of the train and bomb disposal squad was intimated.

Meanwhile, the railway officials have informed that a thorough investigation would be made into the incident to find out who under what circumstance tried to carry explosives in the train. Similarly, the possibility of Maoist involvement in the case would also be checked, they assured.

The incident has put a question mark on the safety and security of rail passengers in the state as in a similar incident the RPF personnel had seized six bundles of detonators from Howrah-Pune Azad Hind Express at Brajrajnagar railway station last Friday.
