5-year-old girl charred to death in house fire in Koraput

Jeypore: In a tragic incident, a five-year-old girl was charred to death and two other in her family including a six-month-old boy sustained critical burn injury in a fire which broke out at a house in Tara village under Borigumma tehsil in Koraput district on Monday.

The deceased has been identified as Dineshwari Harijan, a resident of the same village.

As per the neighbours of the family, sparks erupted at a room in the victim’s house where she was present along with her mother and the six-year-old brother. It is suspected that a petrol jar caught fire at the house due to some reason and later spread very rapidly.

While Dineshwari was burnt to death on the spot, the six-month-old infant and his mother were rushed to Jeypore Hospital by neighbours immediately. The infant was later referred to Koraput Medical College for better treatment as he was found with 70 percent burns.

The victim’s father has survived in the incident as he was out of home at the time of the incident.

Borigumma Police has started investigation into the incident.
