Bhanjanagar: Tightening the noose around the poachers, the Forest Department sleuths arrested at least four hunters and seized a dead boar from their possession, after conducting a raid in Paikhelia forest under Jagannath Prasad Forest Range near here on Monday.
The arrested hunters have been identified as Jalandhar Jani, Kailash Pradhan, Birendra Jani and another from Jagannath Prasad area.
Forest officials conducted the raid after they got a tip-off on the presence of the hunters’ group inside the Paikhelia Forest in the morning. During the raid the accused were caught red-handed while loading a dead wild boar on a bike to transport it. Two bikes and one rifle used in the hunting were also seized from the arrested hunters’ possession.
Cases under the Wildlife Protection Act have been lodged against the arrested hunters and they have been forwarded to court.
