4 houses gutted, 28 cattle burnt alive in Kendrapara village fire

Kendrapara: At least four houses were gutted and 28 cattle charred to death in a massive fire which broke out in Narendrapur village under Marshaghai block in the district last night.

Flames erupted in one Babaji Behera’s house in the village late in the night while all in his family were asleep and later spread to adjacent areas. Till the victim family came to know about the blaze and woke up, the fire had engulfed at least four houses including a cowshed killing at least 23 sheep and 5 cows.

Assets including furniture, valuable documents and electronic goods worth lakhs of rupees were also lost in the incident as villagers failed to contain the fire despite efforts.

The fire was contained by a fire brigade team which reached the village late in the night.

Locals have demanded suitable compensation for the fire victim family as it has lost its lone source of income in the mishap due to the death of the cattle.
