3 of family killed in car-truck head-on crash

Dhenkanal: At least three members of a family were killed after a car they were traveling in was hit head-on by a truck on National Highway-55 near Navbharat Square under Motanga police limits last night.

The deceased have been identified as Govind Tripathy, his wife Monalisa Tripathy and son Swarup Tripathy of Sadashivpur village.

Govind who worked as a Senior Mining Manager in Mahanadi Coalfields Limited (MCL) was on a trip to Andaman and Nicobar Island along with his family for past few days. He was returning to his residence located in Balanda of Angul district from Biju Patnaik International Airport in Bhubaneswar late in the night when the mishap took place. Minutes after leaving Jajpur Collector Ranjan Kumar Das’s house on his way, where the family had its lunch, Govind’s car was struck head-on by a speeding truck coming from the opposite direction after the driver lost control over the wheels.

All three persons boarding the car died on the spot as it got completely mangled in the crash.

Motanga Police reached the spot and sent the bodies for postmortem at Dhenkanal Hospital by today morning.

An investigation is underway in the incident.
