Cuttack: Turning the ‘Khudurukuni Puja’ revelry sour two sisters drowned to death in Sukupaika river near Safipur village under Kissan Nagar police limits in Cuttack district today.
The deceased duo has been identified as Sujata Das and Suman Das of Safipur village.
The victim duo along with another girl had been to pluck flowers from a tree located close to the Sukupaika embankment near a temple for ‘Khudurukuni Puja’ which commences from this afternoon. They slipped into the water due to some reason and drowned.
Some bystanders swung into action immediately and rescued the trio from the river and rushed to Raghunathpur dispensary for treatment. While the life of one of the victim was saved, the sister duo succumbed under treatment at the hospital.
A pal of gloom has descended on the village following the mishap.
