Nayagarh: At least two persons, including a woman, were killed and more than 30 others were injured after the mini-truck carrying them fell down 30 feet from Tukei nullah in Nuagaon under Banigoccha police limits of the district this afternoon. The deceased are yet to be identified.
According to reports, the accident occurred when around 40 tribal people from Nuagaon were returning from Kalasakhamana village after attending a marriage reception. The mini-truck (OD-29 A 1163) overturned, as it was overloaded, killing the duo on the spot and leaving others injured.
A two-year-old boy also has been severely injured while his mother was killed in the mishap.
All the injured were rushed to Daspalla Community Health Centre (CHC). However, seven of them were shifted to the District Headquarters Hospital here as their condition deteriorated.
As the victims were returning from a marriage reception, the driver of the ill-fated vehicle was assumed to have taken alcohol. However, the local police is on its toe to find out the exact cause of the road accident.
An investigation into the matter has also been started.
