2 killed, 9 injured in separate road mishaps in Odisha

Balasore/Balangir: At least two persons were killed and nine others sustained critical injury in separate road mishaps which took place in the state on Thursday.

In the first instance, a pick-up van carrying around six labourers from Gudpai to Balasore turned turtle near Nuanai Ghat under Chandipur police limits in Balasore district at around 10 AM in the morning. The mishap took place after the driver of the vehicle lost control over its wheels. While two persons boarding the van died on the spot, rest five were rushed to Balasore DHH by locals in a critical condition.

Police have reached the spot and seized the mangled van.

Later in the morning, a Mahindra Bolero fell from a height of 100 feet and plunged into a farmland after hitting a roadside tree on the State Highway-59 along Bangomunda-Khadial Road in Balangir district. The mishap which took place after the driver lost his grip over the vehicle left at least four persons critical.

The injured identified as Krusha Chandra Das, wife Ketaki Das, nephew Pritam Das and the driver of the Bolero Narottam Das have been admitted to different hospitals in the district. They were on their way to attend a last rite performance.

Police have reached the spot and started investigation.
