2 held in elderly woman’s murder case in Ganjam

Berhampur: By cracking a week-old murder case in which miscreants had throttled an elderly woman to death after loot at Jemadeipentha street here, police on Saturday arrested at least two accused and seized loot items from their possession.

The held duo has been identified as Santosh Senapati (20), son of Tutu Senapati of Ganjam district and Akash Jagatap (23), son of Tanaji Jagatap of Satara of Maharashtra State.

The deceased woman identified as Jambubati Sahu (80) was alone at her home on June 1 when the incident took place. The accused duo barged into her house at around 4.30 PM with a loot motive and strangled her to death. Later they took away her gold ornaments and decamped.

After the deceased’s grandson Sankarsan Choudhury lodged a case in connection with the incident on the same day, the Bada Bazar Police started its investigation and succeeded in reaching the criminals a few days later. It detained at least three persons for quizzing and set one of them free at a subsequent stage.

Police had also seized cash worth Rs 1.93 lakh, a number of gold jewelleries along with melted gold from the possession of the accused at that time.
