train derailmentJagatsinghpur: Train service was completely disrupted for hours on the Cuttack-Paradip route in the district today, after at least 14 wagons of a goods train derailed near Banabihari Gualipur PH Railway Station.

The accident took place at around 6 AM this morning while the freight carrier was on its way to Jharkhand carrying coal from Paradip port. As per the sources the train developed a mechanical glitch between Goarakhnath and Raghunathpur area on the track but the driver allegedly neglected it and drove the carrier towards Banabihari Gualipur PH, where it skidded off the track.

Though no casualty was reported in the derailment, both the up-line and down-line of Cuttack-Paradip route was blocked. Several other trains on the route remained stranded for hours. Passenger train movement was allowed on the up-line after railway officials carried out repairing later in the day.

“The passenger train services on the up-line of the route have been restored. The down-line repairing is being carried out on a war footing basis and is expected to be completed by tomorrow”, said Brijmohan Agrawal, Divisional Railway Manager, Khurda.

Meanwhile, the Khurda Road Division Zonal Manager of East Coast Railway has ordered an inquiry into the derailment and informed that the exact cause of the accident would be ascertained only after it gets completed.
