Bhanjanagar: Preventing yet another brutal murder from happening in Ganjam district, police arrested at least 14 persons including three minors on Wednesday while they were busy in hatching a plot to kill two wine traders in Aska.

Police also seized a huge cache of arms and ammunition from the possession of the gang including a number of pistols, bikes, live cartridges and mobile phones.

The wine trader duo who was on the target of the assassins are Bhalu Sahu and Bulu Dora.

Informing on the arrests, Aska Police Station IIC Santosh Kumar Jena said the accused were caught after police found significant clue on the murder plot which was being planned by the dreaded criminal Rabi Nahak from inside the jail. Rabi, the main accused in the November 6, 2017 murder of Aska liquor trader Pratap Palei had hired three ‘contract killers’ namely Danger Kalia alias Harsha Swain, Bhagaban Swain and Ajit Nahak alias Kalia to execute his plan.

“Rabi Nahak had planned the murder with a motive to take control of the flourishing illegal liquor business of Aska. The minor trio had been engaged to collect extortion money from traders and contractors in the area which was later being used to purchase arms and ammunition. We first rounded up six accused late on Tuesday night and nabbed eight more based on their information today,” said Jena on Wednesday.

The arrested juveniles would be forwarded to court today, said police.
