12 Maoists, top cadre Hari Bhushan gunned down by police

Malkangiri: In a major success to security forces engaged in anti-Maoist offense, a joint team of Andhra Pradesh and Telengana’s elite Greyhounds along with police forces of Chhattisgarh, Odisha and Maharashtra today gunned down at least 12 Maoists in an encounter in Pujari Kankar forest on Telengana-Chhattisgarh border.

Top Maoist leader Hari Bhushan alias Jagan was also killed along with his wife Sammaka in the encounter. Jagan was the secretary of CPI (Maoist) for Telengana State.

The fierce encounter took place between the members of outlawed CPI (Maoist) group and the security forces today morning while the later was on a combing duty in Pujari Kankar forest, located around 500 km away from capital city of Raipur. At least 12 Maoists including six women were killed and a jawan of Andhra Pradesh’s greyhound sustained injury in the gun battle.

The injured jawan identified as Sushil Kumar was immediately airlifted to a hospital in Chhattisgarh’s Bijapur where he succumbed to the injuries.

Police have also seized a heap of arms and ammunitions including an AK-47 rifle from the possession of the dead Maoists.

The exchange of fire was going on till this report was being filed.
