Berhampur: Causing a wedding party to turn sour, a woman was killed and six including three children sustained critical injury after an auto-rickshaw they were travelling in was hit by a truck at Haridamul Chhak on NH-16 under Khallikote police limits in Ganajm district last night.
The deceased has been identified as Minakshi Choudhury of Bhanjanagar area.
The mishap took place late in the night while a group of Khallikote Court staff were returning home in an auto-rickshaw after attending a marriage function in Bhanjanagar. Near Haridamul Chhak, driver of a speeding truck lost control over the wheels of his vehicle and ended up ramming into the auto-rickshaw from behind.
While Minakshi died on the spot, six others who were accompanying him were grievously hurt in the crash and rushed to a nearby hospital by some bystanders. They were later shifted to MKCG Medical in Berhampur in critical condition.
Khallikote Police has reached the spot and seized the mangled vehicle after sending the body for autopsy. It is trying to trace the truck driver who managed to escape from the spot after the mishap.
