Dhenkanal: At least one person was killed after a bike he was travelling on was hit head-on by a truck at Salabati bridge on Gondia-Bhuban Road under Gondia police limits in the district on Saturday.
The deceased has been identified as Sanjeev Kumar Sahu, a resident of Dhenkanal Housing Board area.
Sahu was on his way to a relative’s house in Bhuban area in the morning when the tragedy struck him. Driver of a speeding truck heading to Gondia lost control over the wheels on Salabati bridge due to some reason and ended up dashing against the victim’s bike.
While the bike got completely mangled in the crash leaving the victim critical on the spot the truck also suffered an overturn.
Some locals rushed the victim to the nearby Sriramchandrapur CHC where he succumbed under treatment.
Angry locals blocked the Gondia-Bhuban Road following the accident and demanded compensation to the next of kin of the deceased.
Police reached the spot and pacified the angry mob to remove the blockade.
