Mohana: At least one person was killed and six others sustained critical injury after a swarm of honey bees attacked them near Mankadadian waterfall under R Udayagiri police limits near here in Gajapati district last evening.
The deceased has been identified as Sanjay Moharana of Biramekhapur village under K Nuagaon police limits in the same district.
Sanjay visited the Mankadadian waterfall to picnic last afternoon and was preparing to return home when the bee attack took place. The picnickers suffered a massive attack by bees, after unknowingly disturbing a comb set up on a tree near the waterfall by Tiger Bees (Baghua Mahumachhi).
Panicked over the bee attack Sajay jumped into the waterfall and drowned to death.
Police reached the spot after getting information on the incident a few hours later and rushed the victims to Chandragiri CHC.
The deceased’s body has been recovered from the waterfall this morning and was sent for autopsy.
