Women’s Hockey World Cup: India lose to Ireland in Tie-Breaker

London: India lost 1-3 in the tie-breaker against Ireland in the first quarter-final of the Women’s Hockey World Cup at the Lee Valley Hockey and Tennis Centre here last night. Reena was the only scorer for India in the shoot-out.

India goalkeeper Savita produced two saves in the shoot-out to keep her team in the hunt, but not enough as Ireland scored through Roisin Upton, Alison Meeke and Chloe Watkins to make their maiden World Cup semi-final.

On the other hand the Ireland goalkeeper Ayeisha McFerran did well to keep the Indian women out. It is the third consecutive time that Ireland has had the better of India, including once earlier in the tournament.

Ireland will face Spain in the first semi-final on Saturday.
